Year 5 and 6 children from Focus School – Gloucester went on a school trip on 2nd July 2015 to @ Bristol as part of the children’s science learning on: ‘Sun, Earth and the Moon’ and Forces – this trip helped the children understand about these abstract scientific concepts from these scientific shows:

Launch It! Science Show

Children gained a more in-depth knowledge on forces:

  • Gravity
  • Friction
  • Air-resistance
  • Up-thrust

through science experiments on rockets.  They discovered the story of Yuri Gagarin, the first person to travel into space. They learnt how combustion fuels enable rockets to have enough up-thrust to defy gravity and the Earth’s atmosphere. The children were inspired on their learning on ‘Rocket Science’ and ‘Space Travel’.

Earth, Sun and Moon Workshop

The children learnt about the cycle of the Earth and Moon using professional apparatus and diagrams. They learnt why Astronauts wear special space clothing – they saw Marshmallow Man explode!

3D Summer Stargazing Planetarium Show

This amazing show allows children to understand about the different planets in our solar system from a 3D perspective and gain a deeper understanding of the universe – awesome!

Forces rockets have to overcome to go into space: Gravity, Friction, Air-resistance, and also to gain enough up-thrust to lift off!
